Music School

The AMS school of music was established in 1982.

The school offers one-to-one tuition to people of all ages, whether you are serious about success in the music industry or playing just for fun.
We have professional teachers that can take you through graded examinations if required, or just help you with your technique.

We offer an excellent learning environment with fantastic facilities.

Recording

If you would like to improve your home recording skills or knowledge of professional recording set-ups our studio courses are for you.

Improve your knowledge of:
Mixing desks – tone, pan, eq, automation, send and returns, midi program changing, patch bays, computer based systems.

Effects – reverb, delay, compressing and limiting, noise gates, chorus, flanging, phasing, pitch shifting, expanders, auto tune, harmonizers. Sequencers, time codes, sampling, hard disk recording, flying in vocals and loops. Recording vocals, guitars and drums. Programming and recording pianos and keyboards. Creating a mix, gain structures, stereo positioning, spectrum mixing, multi-band compression, mikes etc...

Vocal

AMS vocal tuition is beneficial for professional vocalists, children, karaoke singers, choir members… in fact, anybody that wants to improve their singing voice!

Singers with great style but poor vocal technique usually thrash their voices, especially when attempting to sing high notes, often leading to permanent damage.

With the expert guidance of the AMS vocal coaches, you can increase your range, power and accuracy. Develop breath control, vibrato, pitching and vocal tone. You will also learn about the styles of music you wish to pursue whether it’s pop or classical to R&B and jazz. As you progress you can work with our producers to gain studio experience, covering all aspects such as microphone technique, lead vocals, backing vocals, vocal harmony arrangements and performance.

Drums

Our drum tuition covers all styles, including; rock, jazz, funk, metal, reggae, pop, latin & country. We have acoustic and electric kits available.

What do we cover?
Buying, tuning and positioning the kit. Hand and foot technique. Beats and fills. Practice routines. Double bass drum work. Applying ghost strokes. Odd time signatures. Beat displacement. Accents. Soloing. Playing with clicks & sequencers. Playing with a band. Recording.

Guitar

An excellent course, covering: buying a guitar, setting up, tuning methods, strumming, tempo, left hand & right hand technique, open chords, reading tab, the three chord theory, flat picking, finger picking, pitch, modes, barre chords, scales, harmonics, intervals, triads, transposing songs, fast picking, sweeping, arpeggios, hammer ons, pull offs, synthetic scales, licks, time signatures, polychords, chord synonyms, muting, chord substitution, tapping, improvisation, bending notes, alternative tuning, bottle neck & slide guitar, capo’s, amps, pick-ups, repairs and maintenance.

Styles; rock, blues, funk, metal, folk, classical, punk, soul, reggae, country, spanish, latin and jazz.

Piano

Whether you are 6 or 60 and dream of playing piano, keyboard or organ AMS music tuition is for you.

The piano is a great instrument for pleasure and for the more serious musician. We have tuition available in all aspects of piano; reading music, scales and arpeggios, co-ordination, improvisation, practice routines, chord progression, sight reading, harmony etc.

Develop your knowledge of styles such as jazz, rock, blues, country or pop. You may even want to study the classics, such as Beethoven or Mozart through graded examinations.

For those interested in composition or have home studio set-ups learning the keyboard may be more suitable for you. You can learn in the same way as piano but you will also learn about subjects such as midi programming, sequencing, single finger chord and auto accompaniment.

Tuition is also available for organ playing which covers a lot of the keyboard program. In addition you will learn about pedal technique, registration settings and with the use of auto-accompaniment on modern organs you can play the sound of a full orchestra, increasing the pleasure you get from your playing.
